The AI changes werent put there to improve the game, so dont be fooled into thinking anet care about the broken AI, they just cater for the botters, the new AI was added to nerf all bot farming areas in prophecies and factions, anet want the botters to buy nightfall, to boost sales. They added an easily bottable area outside Yohlon Haven, one massive mob of pretty much pure melee all spamming frenzy, one huge low yield bot fest, not enough cash to attract human farmers, but a great place for botting,

Here you go, here's a screenie I took after being chased by 3 shaman for the 1st time. They obviously thought I was cool and wanted to hang out so chased me for almost a whole zone, they didnt attack or run away if I went by them and stayed with me until I zoned. It was funny and really made me laugh but it wasn't a one off freak occurrence and it's certainly not what I would call intelligence; having the monks from each pack you pass chase you like your the damn pied piper.

I'm doing some farming with scythe and it's incredibly well-done the AI against scythes.

-You can easily kill 6 monsters almost at the same time, as if there are over 3 monsters to be hit, it'll keep cycling through the monsters (except the one you have targeted).
-They rarely recognize scythe as AoE, but in those rare occasions, 3 will still be around to be hit, that's scythe's maximum efficiency.
-Dervish enchantments that damage in area are not considered AoEs as they are instant point-blank damage, in area. It's not like a MS.

In other words, I've adapted. I learned how to live with it, so you should do the same. You can't expect for monsters to stay around if you are an Elementalist with MS, SF, SH and BoC on your bar, all cast at the same time.

You gotta know when to hold'em...and know when to fold'em.

I always run away when it looks like a dire situation so we can regroup and fight back. Thing is GW has res shrines and rebirth where as real life doesn't.

But normally I don't worry about any AoE period. I prepare myself before battle by knowing thy enemy. And last time I checked casters hate dazed as much as warriors hate crippling.

I agree with Arcady. Running from AoE regardless of circumstance is stupid.

Sometimes when my casters are in danger, I just have them cast their AoE spell and the enemies all disperse. Instead of finishing my hero off with one more hit, now they kite intelligently away and give me a fighting chance.

It's not a question of adapting. This exploit is just awkward and not very fun, IMO. Using AoE spells not for damage potential but for causing predictable dissent among AI ranks is not an "improved" AI to me.

Let's just face it. The improved AI makes all our enemies into pussies. Real men just grit their teeth, take it like lumberjacks, and laugh at the paltry attempt to injure them!

Yeah, they should put it back

Going in to a 'route' and fleeing with wild abandon will get your whole team killed. Standing your ground for as long as you can will enable you to get victory. If you have to retreat, you stage it and do it in an organized manner to try and reach a point from which you can regroup and relaunch an assault.

I might agree that no flight from an AoE -ever- would be a bad thing. But the recent AI that had flight from anything and in split up directions with no regrouping plan - the running in circles pattern - that is an even worse tactical position to be in.
What you say is absolutely true when it comes to coming under normal fire.

However, when you are dealing with AoE damage, you aren't talking about combat - you are talking about mass area damage.

The equivalent in modern day combat would be having a grenade thrown in your bunker, or finding out your camp as just been laser sighted for a bomb attack.

In those AoE situations, you run, simple as that. Getting killed by massive AoE damage does absolutely nothing for your unit. Yes, you may get separated and you should have a plan for regrouping, but the initial "get the heck outta dodge" instinct would still apply.

That's what needs to be fixed about the current AI - what monsters do after they flee from the AoE, and not the fact they are fleeing in the first place.

they need to also fix the warrior henches with them running into other mobs without orders also

*edit* well looks like dunes of despair bonus is unhenchable now thanks to the fact the caster bosses run around like chickens with their heads cut off and the seige worms kill off the ghostly now even if you are far away -_- GG ANET
